The Commission of the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District has named Eric Dundee, PE, ENV-SP, as the District’s new Executive Director following a national search and extensive interview process.

Eric joined the District in December 2017 as Director of Wastewater Operations and Reliability, and in January 2024, he took on the second title of District Principal Engineer.    In these positions, he oversaw the Operations & Maintenance, Engineering and Ecosystem Services departments, providing strategic oversight and decision-making guidance for about two-thirds of the organization.

“We are thrilled to have Eric step into the role of Executive Director for the District,” says Tom Hovel, Commission President. “In Eric, we not only found a person with the knowledge and experience to lead this increasingly complex organization but also a leader who has demonstrated an ability to build trust and thoughtfully engage with employees, partners and our owner communities. The Commission is excited to work with Eric to support the mission and culture of the organization while challenging the status quo and advancing the interests of the District.”

Eric assumed leadership of the District on January 6, 2025. In this role, he is responsible for executing the District’s strategic plan and multimillion-dollar capital infrastructure program. The Executive Director is also tasked with ensuring safety, regulatory compliance and fiscal responsibility, developing customer and partner relationships, and upholding the District’s mission to protect public health and the environment.

“I am honored to take on this role and lead our talented and dedicated staff to serve our owner communities and take pride in delivering on the District’s mission,” says Dundee. “The clean water industry has numerous challenges on the horizon, and I look forward to tackling these challenges while seeking opportunities to advance our organization and the industry.”

Eric succeeds former Executive Director Michael Mucha, who retired in Summer 2024.
