The Commission of the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District has named Eric Dundee, PE, ENV-SP, as the District’s new Executive Director following a national search and extensive interview process.
Dundee joined the District in December 2017 as Director of Wastewater Operations and Reliability, and in January 2024, he took on the second title of District Principal Engineer.
“We are thrilled to have Eric step into the role of Executive Director for the District,” says Tom Hovel, Commission President. “In Eric, we not only found a person with the knowledge and experience to lead this increasingly complex organization but also a leader who has demonstrated an ability to build trust and thoughtfully engage with employees, partners and our owner communities. The Commission is excited to work with Eric to support the mission and culture of the organization while challenging the status quo and advancing the interests of the District.”
Dundee assumes leadership of the District today, January 6. In this role, he will be responsible for executing the District’s strategic plan and multimillion-dollar capital infrastructure program. The Executive Director is also tasked with ensuring safety, regulatory compliance and fiscal responsibility, developing customer and partner relationships, and upholding the District’s mission to protect public health and the environment.

In his previous positions at the District, Dundee oversaw the Operations & Maintenance, Engineering and Ecosystem Services departments, providing strategic oversight and decision-making guidance for about two-thirds of the organization. Before joining the District in 2017, he was a principal engineer with the City of Madison and a project engineer at MSA, an engineering firm.
Dundee has a degree in environmental engineering from UW-Platteville and an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Kennedy School at Harvard University. He also has an Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV-SP) designation through the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure and completed Iowa State University’s Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Public Employees Leadership Institute.
He is active in the American Public Works Association (APWA), serving on numerous chapter and national committees and has won several chapter awards. He is also on UW-Platteville’s Environmental Engineering Advisory Board.
Dundee succeeds former Executive Director Michael Mucha, who retired in Summer 2024.
